Loving-kindness and the visualization exercise from this week (unit 8) have been the most beneficial to me. I love life and I have a huge heart. The loving-kindness exercise fits me well and so I think it is beneficial. I bend over backwards for people and tend to get taken advantage of but for some odd reason I continue to do things for others. The loving-kindness exercise helps me feel rewarded for the good things I do and also reminds me that there are other good people in the world. The visualization exercise mellows me out big time! I will continue to do the visualization exercise whenever I am having a bad day. This will be a reminder that there are good days but they get forgotten because of the hustle and bustle of life.
Hello Alicia, I too have a huge heart and have great empathy for human kind, so the "Loving Kindness" exercise gives me ease and I believe fits me like a glove. People that are helpers probably fit our mind set and I know I am giving and kind to a fault, but I also think we need to learn when to draw the line in the sand regarding boundaries; otherwise we can be hurt too often. Being too much of a helper with a giving personality does not give our loved ones the chance to feel that good feeling unless we allow for others to do for us too. I have learned when to give and take, as I think it gives us more of a balance in life. Great Post!
ReplyDeleteExcellent post, it is good that you are able to gain satisfaction out of these exercises. It gives one a sense of accomplishment to feel like they are helping another. Also, great point on the visualization exercise, it is very true that the good days seem to be easily forgotten because of the daily happenings in life.
ReplyDeleteAlicia, I too found those meditation exercises to be the most helpful in my life - especially the loving-kindness. I always thought myself to be a giving and empathetic person. But what I have been finding the most helpful with the loving-kindness exercise is extending loving thoughts to the one person I do not like. It has helped me to be less bitter and negative person.
